Biggest student housing scheme in Belfast gets planning approval

Strategic Planning is pleased to have assisted in securing consent for a 740-bed Purpose Built Managed Student Accommodation at College Avenue in Belfast City Centre.

The application was approved by Belfast City Council at a meeting of the Planning Committee held on 19th April 2016 and the scheme will be developed by McAleer & Rushe on behalf of Queens University Belfast.

The development will comprise 647 bedrooms and 93 studio rooms, with a ground floor retail unit. It also includes welfare facilities, associated ancillary accommodation, external areas to include landscaped courtyards and an enclosed car park.

The student accommodation has a number of key socio economic benefits including a £45 million investment by the McAleer & Rushe Group, 600 construction jobs, city centre regeneration through the development of a currently vacant site, encouraging city centre living and indirectly support city centre retail and hospitality sectors.

McAleer & Rushe has attained a reputation of excellence in the development and construction of student housing throughout the UK and Ireland having built or contracted to build 5000 rooms in the last 3 years.

Construction on the College Avenue scheme is expected to be completed by summer 2018.
