Jobs boost for County Down as TG Eakin submit plans for further investment

A planning application has been submitted by TG Eakin Ltd to Ards and North Down Borough Council as the local medical manufacturing firm seek to invest £1.5 million in building additional office accommodation at their Ballystockart Headquarters. If approved, this will lead to a major jobs boost for the area through the creation of 30 jobs; all well in excess of the average NI salary.

TG Eakin Ltd, family owned and Comber based, was founded in 1974 by Dundonald Pharmacist Tom Eakin and specialises in the manufacture and supply of medical equipment; specifically high quality skin protection products for use in stoma and wound care around the world.

The last few years have seen significant growth within the Eakin Group. The company now exports their products to more than 40 countries and, aided by a recent factory extension which was completed in 2014, the range of products they manufacture has also increased.

Managing Director, Jeremy Eakin outlined that the current proposal represents the next stage of development for the company;

“TG Eakin is both a family owned and locally based company and we want to continue to invest in our premises at Ballystockart and bring jobs to the area. However, in order to maintain our position as market leaders and export our products to more countries, we need to recruit highly skilled people in areas such as Research & Development, engineering, global sales and marketing.’’

‘’We have already created 20 new jobs in these areas in the last 12 months and this proposed additional office space will allow us to significantly increase our workforce again through the creation of a further 30 jobs. It will also improve conferencing facilities for customers, suppliers and overseas visitors as well as enabling us to project a modern and attractive image of the business.’’

Strangford MP, Jim Shannon also commented;

“I welcome the exciting plans put forward by TG Eakin who are a significant employer in the constituency and a major Northern Ireland exporter. The proposed development is particularly important as it has the potential to bring 30 well paid jobs to the area.’’

‘’Despite the difficulties that the manufacturing sector has faced in recent times, TG Eakin are evidence that we have world class businesses in Northern Ireland operating successfully on a global scale. I will be urging the Council to progress this application to a positive conclusion as quickly as they possibly can.’’
