Consent secured for social housing units in Holywood

Consent secured for social housing units in Holywood

Strategic Planning has assisted one of Northern Ireland's major suppliers of social and affordable housing, Habinteg Housing Association, in securing consent for six social housing apartments at 34-36 Bangor Road in Holywood.

The development had been identified as a strategically important project for Habinteg as it helps to address current social housing need in the locality and enables them to meet their targets and obligations to the Department of Social Development.

The application was approved by Ards and North Down Borough Council at a special meeting of the Planning Committee which was specifically requested by Strategic Planning to ensure the application could be heard before the end of March.

Various planning issues were addressed throughout the progression of the application including density; height, scale and massing; landscape features; private amenity space, and car parking.

Strategic Planning also advised on a number of amendments to the proposal taking into account a significant local objection campaign and working constructively with Council planners. This resulted in the recommendation to approve which was subsequently ratified by the Planning Committee.
