Kilroot Multi Fuel CHP Facility

Thank you for visiting our online consultation for a proposal from EP Kilroot to develop a Multi Fuel Combined Heat and Power Facility at the site of the Kilroot Power Station.

In July 2020, EP UK Investments (EPUKI) launched the Kilroot Energy Park masterplan and, since then, we have been progressing a number of potential development projects as part of our vision for the site, including the planning application for a new gas pipeline, which will be the first step in replacing the coal units with lower carbon flexible power generation. We are now ready to commence the next stage of development and a planning application for our proposed Multi Fuel Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility, with its associated infrastructure, will be submitted to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council for consideration in 2021. This development will generate renewable heat and power to be used within the Kilroot Energy Park or exported for use beyond the site. In addition to the CHP facility, we also want to build a Learning and Visitors Centre which will provide a unique educational resource, allowing visitors to learn more about the various elements of electricity generation on the site.

Under normal circumstances, consultation with the wider public on the proposal would take place through a public event, however due to current COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, the public consultation event will be held online. Our consultation webpage therefore provides you with access to information on this proposed development in advance of the submission of a planning application and enables you to put forward your own ideas.

We encourage you to take an active role in developing these proposals through providing feedback using the form below. The consultation material can be viewed and downloaded by clicking on the documents under 'View Proposal Documents' to the right.
