Lurgan Area Track Renewal

This project involved essential engineering works to upgrade 1.7km of track between the William Street and Bells Row level crossings in North Lurgan during a 4 week line closure.

The works, which are the first carried out by Translink at this location for over thirty years, will ensure maintenance of the overall performance and high safety standards of this important southern rail corridor for both local and cross border passengers.

ISSUES ENCOUNTERED

  • First major works in this area for thirty years
  • Extent of line closure required (4 weeks)
  • Proximity of residential properties to works
  • Community buy-in

OUR INVOLVEMENT

Gravis worked with our client to design and implement an extensive programme of community and stakeholder engagement with local clubs, churches, schools, community groups, elected representatives, Council and statutory agencies. Various techniques were utilised including letter drops, community newsletters, presentations, drop-in sessions, private briefings and a contractor control centre number for queries.

A significant package of community initiatives was also delivered in association with the construction works which will leave a lasting legacy in the area as a result of the project.

The above work contributed to the successful completion of these major infrastructure works through achieving widespread support from the local community for the project.
