Planning approval was delivered for the £7m redevelopment the site of the former Bangor leisure centre building. The proposal, on a site which has been vacant since 2013, involves the demolition of the existing vacant building and erection of a new 85 bed hotel creating 30 jobs.
As agent, we managed all aspects of the planning application from Pre-Application Discussions through to approval at Ards and North Down Planning Committee in May 2017.
It was clearly shown that the proposal adhered to BMAP and, in line with the principles and aims of both the RDS and SPPS, the development brings a vacant brownfield site back into use while improving and enhancing the visual amenity of the immediate area and making a significant contribution to the growth of the local economy in terms of investment, job creation and tourism growth. The impact of the development on the historic setting and adjacent Listed Buildings was also considered with the proposal shown to be a significant improvement.
We also carried out engagement with the local Primary School, briefed elected representatives and managed the PR for the project garnering positive coverage at submission of the application and on approval.
