CCMS Primary Schools Site Selections

CCMS were carrying out a review of a large number of their primary school sites throughout Northern Ireland with a view to either redeveloping the sites or relocating to an alternative site.

As part of the economic appraisal for each site, a planning site appraisal and site selection had to be carried out.

Issues Encountered

  • Sites had to be within the catchment of existing schools
  • Close proximity to residential
  • Compatible with adjacent land uses
  • Sites to have minimal environmental issues
  • Sites to be of suitable size and shape

Our Involvement

We carried out a full site search for each school within a pre-defined catchment area. We established a list of scoring criteria with the client and the rest of the project team and then consulted with local estate agents to identify sites within the catchment that broadly conformed with the criteria in terms of size and location.

A trawl of all potential sites was carried out and each site was scored against the criteria to identify the most suitable site in planning, environmental and operational terms.

The report of results fed into the business case for each site.
