Renovation of the Tower Centre Shopping Centre, Ballymena

Three planning applications were submitted to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council for a £10m redevelopment of the Tower Centre in Ballymena. Overall, the plans will create over 100 jobs as well as supporting the regeneration of Ballymena through attracting additional footfall to the town centre. The works requiring planning consent were:

  • A new improved entrance at Greenvale Street to form a more welcoming and attractive gateway to the centre
  • An extension of one of the units and reconfiguration of the mall to create an enhanced shopping experience
  • A significant redevelopment at the corner of Mill Street and Wellington Street to provide a new retail unit with modernised façade
  • Issues Encountered

    • Need for timely approval

    Our Involvement

As Agent for the applications, we managed Pre-Application Discussions and prepared the full applications for each proposal. Elected representatives were also briefed on the proposed developements.

Planning consent was secured within one month for two of the applications with the third approved inside two months allowing construction to begin as soon as possible.
