Experience

Royal Belfast Golf Club

One of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland, Royal Belfast was founded in 1881 on the shores of Belfast Lough. Its Victorian Clubhouse, Craigavad House, is a Grade B+ Listed Building which dates back to 1851; whilst retaining its architectural heritage, it is simultaneously a modern and welcoming space for members and visitors.

Our Involvement

Royal Belfast is proposing the replacement of an existing dwelling house along with the refurbishment and conversion of two stable blocks to the rear to form two residential apartments within the grounds of the club itself.

Full account has been taken of the site and its surroundings in the design process to protect its natural beauty, which is integral to the attraction both of the proposed development and of the golf club. The proposal incorporates traditional building materials and has reinstated particular historic features in the stable blocks, thereby respecting and reflecting their historic importance. This represents an excellent form of sustainable development, in that Royal Belfast is optimising the use of the existing buildings to provide visitors with a unique setting in which to enjoy their stay at one of Ireland's premier golf clubs.
