Our Involvement

The hotel itself occupies a Grade B1 listed building, once called Yorkshire House. It is the oldest extant commercial building in Donegall Square, built originally in 1863 as a linen warehouse.

The proposals required a change of use for office space within the neighbouring Scottish Amicable Building on Donegall Square South. The multi-million-pound extension saw the addition of 71 new bedrooms and created 20 new jobs within the business, at the time complementing a £1.5m refurbishment to the main body of the hotel by its owners.

Supporting Coogan and Co Architects, we provided planning advisory services from Pre-Application Discussions through to approval by Belfast City Council in October 2016.

It was clearly shown that the proposal adhered to BMAP and, in line with the principles and aims of both the RDS and SPPS, the development brings makes a significant contribution to the growth of the local economy in terms of investment, job creation and tourism growth.
