Working alongside Isherwood and Ellis Architects, we were pleased to secure planning permission from Mid Ulster District Council for an extension to Kilronan Special School in Magherafelt, on behalf of the Education Authority for Northern Ireland.
Through the design process for this project, it became clear the extension would aim to cater mostly for older pupils and would become a dedicated senior / transition ‘wing’ of the school.
The proposed extension provides seven new classrooms including a shared Art / Technology classroom, a shared Drama / Music classroom and a shared HE / Science classroom. It also includes an ASD support suite, sensory immersion therapy rooms, nurture and life skills rooms and an IT suite.
A key element of the proposed accommodation is a shared social space for older pupils which has been located at the heart of the extension. This will provide a place for pupils to relax with their peers during a busy school day.
We are pleased to have been able to assist the Education Authority in progressing these vital plans for Kilronan Special School.
