Following our recent expansion into Great Britain with new offices in London and Edinburgh, Gravis is delighted to be appointed as a planning advisor to Elgin Energy to service renewable energy projects in England and Scotland. These add to the existing portfolio of energy-related projects across GB for which Gravis Planning is providing planning consultancy services.
Elgin specialises in the development of utility-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology. It recently reached the milestone of 2GW in fully consented projects and currently has a pipeline of projects totalling 11GW in capacity across British, Irish and Australian markets.
Last year, Elgin agreed to the sale of the UK’s largest solar PV transaction to date, a portfolio of 12 projects with a combined capacity of 519MW including 70MW of co-located BESS. It also owns what are currently the largest solar PV projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland respectively.
In 2021, Elgin secured financing from Berenberg Green Energy Fund for the development of solar PV projects across the UK and Ireland amounting to a capacity of 1.36GW. In 2020, the company was successful in securing a route to market for two of its Irish solar PV projects in the country’s first ever Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) auction. Prior to the introduction of newer support scheme mechanisms in the UK and Ireland, Elgin delivered 21 solar projects – with a total capacity of 230MW – before the UK Government’s Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) scheme ended in 2017.
We are excited to be working with Elgin as it continues to play a major part in decarbonising our electricity supply across a range of jurisdictions and enabling governments to meet legally binding targets as we transition to ‘Net Zero’ and reverse the effects of climate change.
