Gravis Planning prepares Retail Impact Assessment to secure planning approval for District and Neighbourhood Centres in Ayr

10 October 2024

We are pleased to have contributed to the success of plans for a District and Neighbourhood Centre in Ayr, Scotland through the completion of a number of retail assessments. The new hub will form a key component of the proposed South East Ayr expansion area which will provide up to 2,750 new dwellings to support the long term growth of the town. Gravis’ Director of Planning in Great Britain, Keith Hargest, said:

“When originally proposed, planning permission was granted for a major new food retailer superstore at this location. However, this proposal failed to materialise due to changes to the retail industry and delay in the commencement of the development. As a result, Swan Holding Group subsequently amended the development proposals to include a new district centre (in the form a retail park) and new local centre to serve the expansion area.”

“Gravis Planning was appointed by Swan Holding Group to prepare the Retail Impact, Deficiency / Capacity and Town Centres First / Sequential Assessment for the planning applications. Earlier this year, South Ayrshire Council resolved to be minded to grant planning permission for the proposed developments, subject to S75 agreement.”

Keith concluded:

‘’We were delighted to play a key role in securing these important consents which will drive further investment into Ayr and contribute significantly to the future vitality of the area.’’
