Gravis Planning is pleased to mark the completion of Translink’s Lisburn Area Renewal project, a railway track renewal spanning from Lambeg Station to Lissue Level Crossing. The completion of this project will ensure that high safety standards and operational performance are maintained on the rail network, increasing the reliability of the service and reducing the need for future maintenance.
The main elements of this project included upgrades to the signalling along the railway line, the installation of new cantilever structures, improvements to the track layout and the extension to Platform 3 at Lisburn Station.
We worked closely with Translink and the main contractor, Babcock, to deliver an extensive programme of stakeholder and community engagement. This included three public drop-in events throughout 2023, various letters and leaflets issued to local residents, webinars and a series of presentations to key stakeholders including community groups, schools, elected representatives and statutory agencies. We were also involved in providing planning advice on issues relating to the project.
Gravis engaged with community groups and schools in the Lisburn area to provide a community benefit package to enable them to take forward a range of environmental initiatives. Throughout the project, the team engaged with Tonagh Primary School, Live Life Wellbeing, Sensability and Tonagh Community Association to facilitate a new sensory garden at the primary school, building refurbishment works for Live Life Wellbeing, a music programme for the Sensability charity and the creation of a community garden in the Tonagh neighbourhood. We were also delighted to work with Translink and Babcock to facilitate a Rail Safety presentation for Tonagh Primary School and a placement opportunity for pupils from Wallace High School.
Gravis is delighted to be involved with Translink in delivering these major infrastructure projects as part of its commitment to maintaining and enhancing the rail network across Northern Ireland.
