On behalf of Portstewart Golf Club, we were delighted to obtain planning permission from Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council’s Planning Committee for a number of redevelopment works across its estate.
Portstewart Golf Club was founded in 1894 and in 2017, its Championship Strand Course hosted the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, with winner Jon Rahm remarking: “It’s probably one of the most beautiful golf courses I have ever seen, if not the most.”
This makes Portstewart Golf Club one of the most attractive golf clubs in the UK and Ireland – with over 10,000 tourists visiting every year from the US alone – and the consented works will allow the Club to uphold this global reputation.
These works involve improvements to the Riverside and Strand courses, new chipping and practice greens, the realignment of the practice area and the construction of new covered bays, the creation of an overspill car park and an extension to the Greenkeeper’s Shed.
Through a meaningful process of Pre-Application Community Consultation, these elements were sensitively designed to seamlessly integrate into their natural landscape and minimise the visual impact of the new development on neighbouring properties, both protecting the natural beauty which the Club is famed for and also residential amenity.
We look forward to seeing the Club make these improvements in the coming months and continue to be must-play location for golfers.
