Earlier this month, Planning Consultant, Carl Wessels, attended the Irish Planning Institute’s Conference for Delivery and Reform.
Reflecting on what was a fantastic event, Carl said:
“The IPI Conference brought together a wide range of professionals involved in planning. It was a great opportunity to look at how all stakeholders can collaborate better to expedite the development of key infrastructure, such as renewable energy assets, housing, and transport, in a way that efficiently meets people’s growing needs.”
“Imelda Mannion, a member of the Government’s Accelerating Infrastructure Taskforce, highlighted the need for new legislation and policy which empower the acceleration of infrastructure development. Recently, we have started to see this in action through the Planning and Development Act 2024 and the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2025.”
“It is welcome, for example, that the time limit for the validity of a planning consent is suspended while a JR is ongoing, so that the consent doesn’t expire because of the delay caused by the legal challenge.”
“We look forward to seeing more improvements introduced via legislation and policy in the near future, to unlock the development and investment that is needed to ensure that Ireland has the infrastructure it needs to continue growing.”
