The proposal was for high quality residential development near the Newry Road, Banbridge. The development included 211 units including a mix of detached, semi-detached, townhouses and apartments. The total investment to deliver this scheme will be approximately £30m with 200 jobs supported through construction and the supply chain.
The development will mainly consist of family homes which will contribute to the family orientated community in this part of Banbridge. The new housing development will help meet housing demand in the local area whilst increasing footfall and revenue to Banbridge town centre. The completed scheme will also add around £280,000 in rates payable every year which will help deliver essential local services.
ISSUES ENCOUNTERED
OUR INVOLVEMENT
Gravis Planning provided planning and strategic communications support to the developer, McAleer & Rushe, to secure approval for this residential development.
Planning advice included dealing with responses from statutory consultees such as DfI Roads, Rivers Agency and DAERA Natural Environment Division.
Through effective engagement, letters of support were gained from the local business community and amendments were introduced to deal with concerns expressed. This culminated in political support for the project at the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council planning committee.
